Overview: Completed in 2008 this project involved total upgrades to nearly all technology in this 100 bed county jail. Systems that were replaced included CCTV Cameras, Control Room interfaces for CCTV Monitoring and Control, cell and interior Door Access Control, lighting and intercom.
The existing technology was very old and antiquated and infrastructure had to be reused as much as possible. Cabling and existing equipment was poorly documented and disorganized. Existing status panels were simple analog contact closures that lit panel lights. Upgrades and conversions had to be done while the facility was occupied and active with accepting and releasing inmates.
GE Security – Facility Commander Wnx (Now UTC) was the software chosen for the project. This is a master facility control system with multiple control stations. Access Control, Intercom, Lighting and CCTV are all tied together with one interface. CCTV system extends to the Justice Center and outdoor locations as well. There are a total of 63 cameras (indoor and outdoor), nine of which were new with this project. Internet viewing and control interfaces extend these capabilities with appropriate permissions. Master control has large 17” Elo touch screens to operate all systems. By touching the video image the operator can activate the intercom and open the door. Many components of the system were already in place and needed to be reused, such as the door stations, lights and door locks. The intercom system head-end was completely replaced with a new Bogen system and integrated back into the existing door station hardware. System design and engineering was extensive in that there were many custom modifications required in order to make these legacy components compatible with the new system. Custom control room furniture was also provided to integrate the new command center technology.
